Photo Club -Sakabayashi in the sake brewery
New sake of this season has been produced and new Sakabayashi (Sugitama) is hung at the entrance of Sen-nin brewery!
Sakabayashi is a large ornamental ball made of trimmed fresh green Japanese cedar branches. In the olden days, hanging Sakabayashi under the eaves out the front of a brewery was the signal to announce that new sake had been made to customers. This custom has been still practiced in the sake breweries.
Sakabayashi which is newly hung is fresh and green like the photo, but its color gradually changes to brown as maturing process of stored sake progresses.
Now is the best season for new sake. Please come and visit Takashimizu brewery!
